Patti Jones Named President of J-Check
Patti Jones has been named President of J-Check effective May 1, 2019. J-Check Testing for J-Scholars is the premier testing and documentation service used by American universities to evaluate the English language fluency of their guest international faculty. By federal law all participants in the US J-visa program must demonstrate appropriate proof of English proficiency. Professors, teachers, researchers, scientists, and physicians from around the world travel to the United States each year and, through their on-campus activities, greatly contribute to the globalization of our universities and surrounding communities.
J-Check is growing at a rapid pace, and I carefully considered whom to select to lead it forward. Patti Jones is the right – no she is the perfect – individual to be our first President of J-Check. I know she will not only have our company’s best interests at heart but also the best interests of the many J-Scholars from around the world who are welcomed by our partner schools to the USA. In February, 2019 J-Check launched its new website at www.jchecktest.com with expanded features that let partner schools customize their own unique institutional portal. The J-Check testing platform features the iTEP Academic Plus, a comprehensive test that covers grammar, reading, listening, speaking, and writing. J-Check is wholly-owned by Jameson Global.
Patricia “Patti” Jones | Biography
Patti is an alumna of Western Illinois University (WIU). After 10 years of teaching English in the public school system in Illinois, Patti returned to WIU where she worked for 31 years in a variety capacities. She has been a member of the WESL faculty, the Director of International Student Affairs, the Assistant Director of the University Advising Center, and the Director of WESL.
Her work has included state, regional, and national member leadership in NAFSA: International Association of Educators, most recently completing a term as the Chair of the Membership Engagement Committee in December, 2018. An award is given in Patti’s name in NAFSA Region V (Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin) to professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the Region, and she received the Homer Higbee Award (a national award) for outstanding service from NAFSA in 2009. This was followed by the awarding of Life Membership in NAFSA in 2011. For the last five years Patti has been the Senior Consultant for Jameson Global.
Patti‘s areas of expertise include English as a Second Language, campus internationalization, and the Republic of Korea. She has traveled extensively throughout the world, most frequently to Korea. She believes in encouraging and mentoring young professionals whenever and wherever possible.
J-Check | Testing for J-Scholars
J-Check is a quick and cost-effective way of providing testing and documentation of English proficiency for J-visa scholar applicants. In accordance with United States government visa regulations, all incoming J-visa holders must demonstrate proof of English language fluency.
