Credit Transfer to the USA

There are two options for the course credit to transfer back to your university in the USA and apply towards your degree:

1. Option 1 – Arrange with your home university before your departure to CRLA. Most universities have a study abroad credit transfer form that has to be completed. This is done prior to your departure and enrollment at CRLA and is the ultimate responsibility of the student but Jameson Global can assist with this.

2. Option 2 – For students from universities who do not have a direct transfer back option, transfer courses to Jacksonville University (JU) in Florida and then from JU to your home university. In this case the credits appear on a Jacksonville university transcript. (Please note, separate JU fees may apply for this option.)

Sample Spanish Courses offered for credit (and their JU course credit equivalency):

  • Beginner Spanish I (SPANISH 101) JU (3 credits)
  • Beginner Spanish II (SPAN 102) JU (3 credits)
  • Beginner Spanish III (SPAN 201) JU (3 credits)
  • Intermediate Spanish I (SPAN 201) JU (3 credits)
  • Intermediate Spanish II (elective) (3 credits)
  • Intermediate Spanish III (SPAN 202) JU (3 credits)

Costa Rica Vertical2

Learn about culture, learn about life!

The CRLA offers more than just Spanish language instruction. Students have a chance to experience the Costa Rican culture in a variety of ways. Sign up for a cooking class and learn to prepare (and enjoy eating) traditional, authentic Costa Rican cuisine. Like to move? Take one of CRLA’s Latin Dance classes and learn to Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, or Bolero. Dance!

Become a part of the family!

Learn about Latin culture first hand by living with a homestay family. Homestays provide airport pickup service, laundry, daily meals (breakfast and dinner) and a chance to improve your Spanish speaking skills by interacting on a daily basis with native speakers. Learn about Costa Rican culture and make friendships that last a lifetime. You are not a guest, you are part of the family.
