OPTION A: Institutional Acceptance of J-Check
Become a J-Check Institutional Member: Your institution agrees to accept J-Check as one of its J-visa Scholar English proficiency options, but requires the prospective J-scholar to pay for the testing cost. In this case, the University simply directs the scholar to our J-Check webpage (www.jamesonglobal.com/jcheck) and he/she pays online and takes the test (cost is $99 USD to scholars).
An official J-Check comprehensive grade report is automatically sent directly to your institution’s J-visa officer to be included in the DS2019 file in order to verify compliance and documentation. The scholar also receives a copy to take to his/her visa interview. Jameson Global keeps a complete archive of all J-Check testing, and can provide documentation support in case of a J-visa site visit or audit of your institution.

Steps to become a J-Check Institutional Member:
- Notify Jameson Global of your school’s interest in becoming an institutional member (email jcheck@jamesonglobal.com or call 501-508-5253).
- Notify Jameson Global which staff member(s) at your institution have been designated to receive official J-Check grade reports.
- Receive your official J-Check membership confirmation from Jameson Global and notify your academic departments of the J-Check testing option for their J-scholars.
- Provide the J-Check webpage link (jamesonglobal.com/jcheck) to your prospective J-scholars via your International department’s webpage and/or emails. Your J-scholars can go there to take the free practice diagnostic test as well as pay for and take the official J-Check exam.
- Start receiving J-Check reports in order to issue the DS2109 and have documentation in each J-visa file. Be prepared in case of a J-visa site visit or audit!

Just what is J-Check? The J-Check program is a quick, convenient and cost-effective way of providing testing and documentation of English proficiency for your institution’s incoming J-visa scholars. By law, your institution must have an objective way to measure and document the English proficiency of each of your J-scholars to verify that that he/she can successfully participate in the J-visa program as well as function on a day-to-day basis. Categories eligible for J-Check testing include: professors, short-term scholars, research scholars, specialists, and alien physicians.
